Online and Blended Learning

Cuyahoga Community College offers many online and blended learning courses, degrees and certificates. To successfully complete an online or blended course, students must possess basic computer literacy skills. Additionally, students must be able to attach, create, modify and save electronic documents, upload/download files, navigate the internet, use email, and participate in course-related web conferences. All courses with an online component have the same minimum technical requirements, including the need for specific web conferencing equipment.

Registration procedures are the same as on-campus courses; however, there is an additional $10 per credit hour fee for online classes.

For additional information about online and blended learning courses, visit Tri-C Online or email the Online Learning and Academic Technology team at OLAT@tri-c.edu.

See a list of online degrees and certificates on the Online Opportunities webpage.

Online Courses

Online learning allows students to complete course requirements without physically being on a Tri-C campus. Students engage with faculty, classmates, complete assignments, and participate in instruction via Blackboard Learn or D2L's Brightspace, unless otherwise specified. Blackboard Learn and D2L's Brightspace are cloud-based learning management systems (LMS) used for course delivery and assignments. Both learning management systems are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be accessed on PCs, Macs, and most mobile devices.

For course registration purposes, Tri-C utilizes the following modality codes:

Online/Asynchronous - These fully online courses have no set meeting times but may have scheduled online or in-person proctored exams.

Virtual meetings - These fully online courses require attendance in virtual meetings on the days and times listed.

Competency-Based Online - Competency-based online courses allow students to work at their own pace with faculty support.

Blended Courses

Blended learning allows students to complete some course requirements without coming to a Tri-C campus. In addition to face-to-face time on campus, students engage with faculty and classmates, complete assignments and participate in instruction via Blackboard Learn or D2L's Brightspace, unless otherwise specified. Blackboard Learn and D2L's Brightspace are cloud-based learning management systems (LMS) used for course delivery and assignments. Both learning management systems are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be accessed on PCs, Macs, and most mobile devices.

For course registration purposes, Tri-C uses the following modality codes:

On-Campus Courses

Proctored Online Testing

Proctored testing may be required in some online and blended courses. Math, science, and nursing courses often require proctored tests.

A “suitable proctored environment” is a faculty-approved environment directly monitored by an instructor, testing center administrator, or other learning providers in a physical or online setting. While proctors must be approved by the instructor, suitable proctors may include Tri-C Testing Centers, other accredited college or university testing centers, ProctorU, and military education centers. If the testing center charges a fee, it is the student’s responsibility to pay that fee.

Tri-C has partnered with ProctorU to provide proctoring services for online exams; this service is free to students. All students are encouraged to create a ProctorU account. Learn more about proctored testing at Technology Resources / ProctorU. Campus Testing Centers may also provide proctoring for online and blended courses.
